There's another aspect as well, with "communist" and other ludicrous tags, which I like to explain by way of dictionary definitions:

communism. Equal opportunity for others that may deny me privileges to which I’ve become accustomed.

socialism. 1. A level playing field for others. 2. A system of laws that may undermine my unjustified sense of entitlement.

fascism. 1. A system of laws proposed by a politician for whom I and my friends did not vote, and with which I disagree. 2. Ideology of an opponent who shames me by pointing out my obviously racist commentary or hand-made sign.

the signs make more sense when they're thought of this way. obviously obama's not a communist, but when you go back to the little rock photo and think of what the people there meant by the word, today's usage can sort of be explained.

You've given me another word that needs a teaparty definition: muslim. though that one will be really tough to condense, you've made a good start on it.

Gimme a break, don't lump everybody in with your grandma. I seem to remember somewhere in texas............ So if a black guy was carrying that sign would it be racist? I'll be willing to bet you will tell me "coyly" how it's not.
And, why would you equate Kenya with a lack of intelligence? THAT sounds racist from where I sit. Lack of schooling doesn't necessarily mean lack of intelligence. look around you southern boy.
Anyway. back to my original question. Where is the racism? It's not there, but you want to see it so you will. It's as simple as opposing your president, that's racist isn't it. Noone could possibly disagree with Barry, they must be racist. Gimme a break...........

It's better hidden than it used to be but it's still there. Call him a Muslim. That's the latest code word. People around here (South) used to come up and whisper "he's black". Now, they whisper "he's Muslim" when explaining there problems with a black politician, teacher, principal, etc. My grandma says it the same way, and, yes, she is racist. I lover her dearly but, she ain't changing for noone!
Just because haters have learned how better to camouflage their hate doesn't make them any less hateful. I'm sure the "Kenya is missing an idiot - Deport Obama" sign is trying to highlight Obama's lack of intelligence. That's what I always associate with Africa. Right. While there are certainly legitimate objections to some of President Obama's policies, the people in these pictures are not making legitimate objections. Do not try to coyly(sp?) assert that they are.

the protests and use of the word 'communist' reminded me of the same image, so I decided to start a little dictionary for regular people last week. Anybody have suggestions for other words to add?

Uh. Where's the racism in the current shots?

The tea baggers are the children of these protesters in the 50's. Hate is taught it is not inborn. The other day I was in JC Penney and I overheard an older woman tell her grandson. "we don't like them and they don't like us so you should have nothing to do with them". I knew she was talking about a Hispanic lady and her son who were nearby. I watched to see what the reaction of the little boy was and he seemed puzzled by his grandma's words. I hope he went home that night and told mom and dad what grandma said. These old racists (tea baggers) were raised that way and no matter what you tell them they will not change. We just have to hope they die out sooner rather than later since they don't want health care from the government.

Excuse me, I am a 27 year old white female born and raised in San Antonio, TX. From the time I was a child, until even now in the workplace, I've personally experienced racisim every single day. Being white in South Texas makes you a minority. How come when I was jumped and beaten behind a gas station by my classmates just because I was white, when the police were called and I was rushed to the ER, it didn't make even the local news that a racist event had taken place? Why? Because I'm white so I don't matter? If a mexican or a black female had been jumped behind the corner store by a group of white people, what would have happened then?

At work, hispanic women collaborate against me and speak about me in spanish, right in front of my face, all day long.

Hipanic females, in this area of the USA, hate white females.

I don't like racism, my neice and my nephew are half hispanic, but it sure is impossible to like someone who hates you so much just because of the lack of color in your skin.

My husband and I are saving every penny to move north, far away from Mexico, before my 2 year old daughter starts school so she doesn't experience the terror I've gone through in South Texas my whole life.

How come it is politically correct to name a church "The Hispanic Baptist Church" or "The Baptist Church of Color" but all hell would break loose the day someone tried to name that church "The Caucasian Baptist Church?"

How come it is politically correct to have scholarships specifically named for African Americans or Hispanics, but it's racist to have a Caucasian scholarship. How come it's OK for another child to be picked for a scholarship over my white child, who has a better academic record, just because that child is hispanic or black?

If Im the better candidate, is it racist the company hires the hispanic or african american instead?

I don't get it. If we are going to stop racisim, it needs to be stopped all the way around. No one should be treated differently for the color, or lack of color, of their skin. All scholarships, funds, and anything else in this world dedicated to one specific race are racist and should not exist- not in this day and time.

Most disgusting are the apologists, like Ann Althouse, who have suggested the photos of Teabaggers might be Photoshopped by liberals. And that we're mean for picking on them.

These posters are just hateful.

My favorite sign in that old picture (it's from Little Rock, Arkansas BTW) is the one half-hidden by somebody's head: "STOP THE RACE-MIXING: MARCH OF THE ANTI-CHRIST"
