That's nothing. He's made judgments like that before. The one I recall a couple of years ago was about the Israeli prime minister who had a stroke. Robertson said it was God's punishment for, as he said, 'dividing up the land,' in other words, trying to make peace with the Palestinians and allowing a two-state solution.

Here is what Pat Robertson was talking about: Bois Caïman (Haitian Creole: Bwa Kayiman) is the site of the Vodou(voodoo) ceremony presided over by Dutty Boukman on August 14, 1791. The purpose of the ritual was to attempt to expel the French occupation, which were using the Haitians as slave labor.[1]
According to the official "History of Haiti and the Haitian Revloution"[2], in 1791 the following events occurred:
A man named Boukman, another houngan, organized on August 14, 1791, a meeting with the slaves in the mountains of the North. This meeting took the form of a Voodoo ceremony in the Bois Caiman in the northern mountains of the island. It was raining and the sky was raging with clouds; the slaves then started confessing their resentment of their condition. A woman started dancing languorously in the crowd, taken by the spirits of the loas. In the spirit of making a pact with the devil, with a knife in her hand, she cut the throat of a pig and distributed the blood to all the participants of the meeting who swore to kill all the whites on the island. On August 22, 1791, the blacks of the North entered into a rebellion, killing all the whites they met and setting the plantations of the colony on fire. However, the French quickly captured the leader of the slaves, Boukman, and beheaded him, bringing the rebellion under control.
It is widely accepted as the starting point for the Haitian Revolution.
The ceremony was first documented in 1814 by Antoine Dalmas in his book History of the Saint-Domingue Revolution.

I'm a little conflicted watching this dialogue. I'm a Christian and I'm a a little shocked by what Pat R. had to say.

What he's intimating seems to be that if you do something wrong aka "sin", that God is going to exact retribution. Honestly, I struggle with the same issue. Think about a time when something bad happened to you. Isn't it common for you to think about what you did to deserve it? I have certainly reaped the consequences of impulsive decisions that I regret, but when it comes to God, Jesus came to usher in a new way of relating to God. If you don't believe in a "god" that holds more ability than the sum of humanity, then this is a wierd conversation to have. If you do believe that there is a supreme rule maker, then what happens if you break them? Well, then the rule maker sets things right. You parents understand what it's like to be a rule maker. The whole purpose of jesus coming to earth was to stand in the gap between the supreme rule maker and say... "I'll take the hit for all of them".
I say yes to that deal. Now, I'm supposed to watch out for my neighbors. Who are they? Well, now that I've stumbled across you folks, it's you. Now that I'm aware of massive suffering of my fellow humans, it's them. So....howdy neighbors.

As a Christian pastor, I am horrified by Pat Robertson's comments on many levels. My concern is that many will assume that Robertson's word represent Christian theology. They do not.

And, yes, his foundation does incredible charitable work, but we're not talking about his foundation here ... we're talking about a foolish comment made about a country whose people are suffering. Robertson's comments were inappropriate.

One last thing. If anyone actually watches the 700 Club, they would know that they usually do their reports on the news on each segment and then right after, Pat will do his editorial based on Biblical scripture. He wasn't "edited out" of the piece. Someone else did the "editing out". If they were not going to back Pat, then Pat's replies wouldn't even be recorded for someone to post it here. They would have simply thrown it out. Use your brains. I bet most of you talking have never even seen that program to even know what its about.

Oh and the Bible DOES support health and wealth. It's all a part of keeping the burdens of debt from causing stresses that will eventually kill you. What makes me want to vomit is what people want to hear and repeat it and not hear what was said. Nowhere in that video does Pat say that God did this to anyone. He said because of the pact that some individuals made to make themselves free, a whole sect of curses have really plagued Haiti. Be very careful of what you ask for, Susan. And all the others up there scoffing and mocking... Noah was building an Ark and people did the same thing and when it was time to get'er going, people were begging and banging on the doors to be let in and wound up getting killed by the flood that was 'never going to happen'. SO UNTIL someone debunks what Pat says, keep Christianity and religion out of ridiculous talks. Besides, Say what you want about Pat and the 700 club, but they are there when disasters happen, which is a lot more than can be said for a lot of you who would rather toss a buck or two than go down there to help the Haitians in there time of need. Anyone going to volunteer to go down? Anyone? didn't think so.

First of all, let me state that I think Robertson sometimes can be over-the-top with his claims. That's just part of his schtick. He also preaches a "health and wealth gospel" that the Bible does not support. That being said...

IF the legend of a satanic pact is true, from a straight up Biblical standpoint, Robertson's claim could be true. God does hold people accountable for the actions of their leaders - there are many examples of this throughout the Bible. According to the Bible, "God" kills and otherwise destroys people all the time when He's angry with them - true story! Read the Noah's Ark story, for the most obvious example, where God destroys everyone except Noah and his family. But of course this sort of destruction happens time and time again throughout the Bible. "He" also promotes murder and human sacrifice. Exodus 22:29 - Judges 11:30-39 - Numbers 31:40 "God" and Jesus both promote and approve the murder of disobedient children. Deut 21:18-21 - Matt 15:3-4 - Mark 7:9-13 And "He" also promotes the murder and theft of other peoples' property (see various "promised land" stories, where "God's chosen" are instructed to murder and pillage the lands of other nations.
